Frequently Asked Questions / FAQs

How long does a CBT course last?

Allow at least one day for your CBT course. If you are an absolute beginner with no road experience, it may be more beneficial and cost-effective to take an ITM course.

My CBT is a renewal, do I have to stay the whole day?

If you are renewing your CBT and can satisfactorily demonstrate all aspects of the CBT syllabus, your course could be just a few hours. Remember, you are legally required to ride on the road for a minimum of 2 hours. Please bring your expired CBT certificate with you if possible.

How much does a CBT course cost?

Our CBT course is priced £185 and £165 for WLMT returnees. You can book online, or call our office if you are retaking your course or are a WLMT returnee.

Do CBT courses include bike hire?

CBT includes bike hire, helmet and jacket, plus an instructor and third party insurance to ride on the road.

Will I go on the public road with my CBT?

You will have a minimum of 2 hours on the road during your course. Once you have satisfactorily completed all elements of the CBT course, you will be issued with a CBT certificate (DL196), which will allow you to ride unaccompanied on the road. You cannot carry passengers or go on motorways, you must display L plates on the front and back of your bike, and you can ride anything up to a 125cc auto or geared bike if you are 17 years old or over.

What do I need to bring?

Bring your licence, wear jeans as minimum with no rips or tears and strong leather boots that fully cover your ankles for protection – no tracksuit bottoms, shoes, sports footwear, trainers or canvas footwear allowed. For hygiene reasons, we are unable to loan gloves so please BRING YOUR OWN ROAD MOTORCYCLE GLOVES ONLY for protection - builders work gloves, mountain bike gloves, off-road gloves, fingerless gloves, gardening gloves etc are NOT permitted. If you ware borrowing a WLMT helmet, you must also bring a full face balaclava to wear underneath.

Is there parking available on site?

There is strictly no car parking on weekdays (Mon-Fri) inside or outside of Fairholme School. WLMT takes no responsibility for any Penalty Notice Charges issued – see road signs for guidance. Parking is permitted at weekends (Sat-Sun). The instructor will show you where to park your motorcycle onsite.

How much does DAS (full licence training) cost and how long does it take to complete?

DAS course prices start from £650. The length of your course depends on the result of your DAS assessment, which you can book online.

I can ride really well, so can I do DAS in fewer days?

We offer a variety of short courses for experienced riders along with Same-Day Training & Test slots.

I can’t get time off work, can I train on Sundays?

WLMT is fully operational for all courses at weekends. We will always endeavour to structure your course around your availability.
