Introduction & WLMT Courses

In order to undertake ANY of the training courses provided at WLMT you would be required to take an eyesight check. If you use your glasses for the eyesight check, you will be required to wear them on the road. You’ll have to read a number plate from a distance of:

  • 20 metres for vehicles with a *new-style number plate
  • 20.5 metres for vehicles with an old-style number plate (*New-style number plates start with 2 letters followed by 2 numbers, for example LU65 XYZ).

If you fail your eyesight test your course will be terminated and your money will not be refunded – you will also be required to pay the full price again.

Need to Know

You will also need to present a valid provisional UK, full (car) UK or Northern Ireland photocard licence with a provisional category A. If you have a valid old-style paper licence, this must be presented with a valid passport. If you fail to present a valid licence at the start of your course, your course will be terminated and your money will not be refunded – you will also be required to pay the full price again.

EU licences may be accepted if supported with a D9 confirmation of registration certificate. Depending on the international country of issue it may be possible to exchange your licence for a UK licence. Click the link in Important links.

If you have a category (A) on your licence that is followed by code (79), restrictions apply. This means that as a car licence holder you have acquired a Tricycle (3 wheeler) licence, however, your category A (79) (Provisional) becomes validated with a current CBT certificate.

Course Information

Safety First

All WLMT courses include loan bike, motorcycle helmet and jacket. Due to the Covid-19 virus we are unable to loan motorcycle gloves so you must BRING YOUR OWN ROAD MOTORCYCLE GLOVES ONLY – builder’s work gloves, mountain bike gloves, off-road gloves, gardening gloves, fingerless gloves, fashion gloves etc, ARE NOT PERMITTED. If you are borrowing a WLMT helmet, you must wear your own full head balaclava underneath - you will not be able to use our helmets without one.

Everyone learns at a different pace and at WLMT, individual assessments (£20) are carried out so that we can offer you the right training course. Your instructor will discuss this with you at the end of your assessment.

Prior to booking any courses, you must inform WLMT of any learning difficulties, medical conditions, co-ordination problems or if you are taking medication, which could affect your learning or ability to ride, so that we can pair you with the right course and instructor.

If your instructor believes that you have not met the required and safe standard during any on-site course or on the road, you could be asked to return at a later time/date to complete your training, or continue practising on a smaller machine until you are up to a safe and satisfactory standard. If more than a week has passed since your initial CBT, you will be required to sit the whole course again.

WE ALSO OFFER ONE-TO-ONE INSTRUCTION FOR ALL OF OUR COURSES. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR MORE INFORMATION

On the Day

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your course to register. Your instructor will meet you at the gate. As we operate from a school, unauthorised and unsupervised entry is prohibited. Please bring ALL of your documents with you and ensure you are not late otherwise you will be asked to re-book. No refund will be offered for CBT as you must be present for and complete each element before you can progress onto the next. This is the same for other specific courses unless prior arrangement is confirmed by WLMT.

All on-site training is carried out in a safe and controlled DVSA authorised site, with DVSA approved instructors.

There is strictly no car parking inside or outside of Fairholme School on weekdays (Mon-Fri) except during school holidays and on bank holidays. If you enter the restricted zone, you will be issued with a Penalty Notice Charge, which WLMT accepts no responsibility for - see road signs for guidance. Car parking on-site on Saturday and Sunday is permitted. Motorcycles are permitted to park onsite at all times and the instructor will show you where to park.

It is a no smoking site, and we kindly ask you to respect the school premises. Vehicles and possessions are left on site at owner’s risk. WLMT accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage of your personal belongings.

Tea, coffee and refreshments are provided, though we advise that you bring a packed lunch, and you are more than welcome to use the microwave and store food in the refrigerator.
